One of the primary tasks for type specifications and data/file accessibility is the ability to locate/manipulate general storage objects with URIs and queries. Medium and Resource objects are generics to be used for constructing both compositional and inheritance-based hierarchies, and the corresponding URI/query subsystem should be capable of referencing groups of items in any such object/data space.
